Part 7 - Budapest - new city, new camera!

In our last episode ...
- the world comps were over bar the shouting
- our heroes were recovering from being robbed while derigging on the last day

Sat 7 aug - Tom & I were the sole Aussie reps at the closing ceremony in the hangar under cloudy skies - all new champions received medals, trophies & invitations to the Heli Lasch challenge in South Africa. We left 4M for a paint touch-up & hitched a lift to Budapest with Beryl Hartley & Toshi (Mac's team manager) as the weather changed to the best skies we have seen so far!

Walked round Margaret Island in the Danube - beautiful parklands, aquatic centre and site of the 2010 European Swimming Championships - later met Beryl & Schmiddy for dinner with Danube views & soft music

Sun 8 Aug - caught the Metro (the 2nd oldest in Europe after London) to the main station to buy our tickets back to Szeged, then Media Markt for a new camera, then the Hop On Hop Off bus tour of Budapest ...

first the Pest side of the river ... Houses of Parliament - magnificent

Heroes Square

Anonymous Restaurant ....

Named after Anonymous (of course!)

Houses of Parliament from the river cruise (worth a second shot!)

Sunset cruise

Replica of Shakespeare statue in Ballarat by Andor Meszaros - who sculpted the Tasman Trophy (which we've both won!)

Story of the replica

Mon 9 aug - the Buda side ... the Royal Palace

Their "statue of liberty" on Citadel Hill

Had dinner with Bill Elliott (US team flying JS1 which he took delivery of here) and new non-gliding wife Carol - discussing JS1s & we mentioned Bruce Taylor had bought a JS1 instead of coming to the world comps - Carol looked accusingly at Bill and said "you mean there was a CHOICE!"

In our next exciting episode ...
- our heroes go trailer touring back to Denmark
